Danette Escobedo, LPC

Director of Internships and Clinical Supervision

My approach in working with clients and supervisees is heartfelt, engaging, and down to earth. I am passionate about helping others to achieve authentic relationships and healing in their lives, and fostering the innate healing capabilities of clinicians.  I believe a supportive relationship between supervisor and clinician is of utmost importance in teaching, mentoring, and assessing development of clinical skills. RAFT offers a collaborative team model for counselors and staff, and I am truly fortunate to work with dedicated and highly skilled counselors.

My clinical experience includes individual, youth, and family counseling in private practice, inpatient and outpatient settings, emergency services, and school-based programs. My areas of expertise include grief/bereavement counseling, multicultural issues, interracial couples counseling, parenting skills, and crisis intervention. Counseling grieving adolescents is an area I am particularly passionate about, and have received specialized training and volunteered at the Dougy Center (National Grief Center for Children & Families). Additionally, I have co-authored scholarly articles on counseling grieving adolescents and multicultural issues.  I have served in clinical supervision roles in school based mental health programs, walk-in crisis clinics, and as Director of Admissions for a behavioral health hospital. Currently I am completing certification as an Approved Clinical Supervisor, and utilize this specialized training to support our clinicians in providing high quality, evidence-based services to clients at RAFT.

“I had the privilege of participating in individual and group supervision with Dannette. I deeply appreciated her insight, and collaborative, genuine, and flexible approach. Dannette is passionate and creative in the ways she invests in helping therapists develop their own agency. When you receive healthy supervision, the impact reaches beyond you as a clinician and truly supports your clients and the community in which you serve; it was a gift to share this vision in our work together”- K.O, former LPC supervisee

“I worked with Dannette right out of graduate school in my role as an assessment specialist. As my supervisor, Dannette helped me to move in the direction of growth through her ability to listen, empathize, and share her clinical experience and knowledge. Dannette worked with me to help refine my clinical skills and provided understanding in how to best advocate for my patients. She supported me and helped me to feel confident to use my skills to help serve and provide excellent care to my patients.” – J.D., former LPC supervisee

“Dannette is one of the best supervisors I have ever had because she always practiced what she preached! She always made sure ethics and values were considered when making decisions for treatment. She talked any situation out and allowed for me to ask questions. I am the therapist I am today because of Dannette!” – S.L., former LCSW supervisee
