The holiday season is a time of joy, but for many people, it's also a time of stress and overwhelm. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the holidays, here are five tips to help you get through it.
1. Set realistic expectations.
The holidays can be a busy and hectic time, so it's important to set realistic expectations for yourself. Don't try to do too much in too little time. Know your limits and schedule accordingly. The holidays don't have to be perfect to be wonderful. Instead of trying to make everything just so, focus on enjoying time with your loved ones. The mess can wait!
2. Make a list… and check it twice.
To-do lists can be helpful in getting organized and keeping track of what needs to be done. Break your holiday tasks down into smaller, manageable pieces so you don't feel overwhelmed.
3. Take breaks.
Taking breaks throughout the day will help you stay refreshed and prevent burnout. Even if it's just a few minutes, take some time for yourself to relax and recharge. Take a look at your calendar and see what events you can say no to so that you can carve out some time for yourself. You don't have to do everything or be everywhere to enjoy the holidays!
4. Reach out for help.
If you're feeling really overwhelmed, don't hesitate to ask for help from family and friends. Sometimes all it takes is an extra set of hands to get through the holiday craziness.
5. Practice self-care.
Remember to take care of yourself during the holidays. Get some exercise, prioritize your sleep, and take some time for yourself each day – even if it's just 10 minutes. Small acts of self-care can make a big difference in how we feel overall. Whether it's taking a relaxing bath or reading your favorite book by the fire, taking some time for yourself will help you recharge and feel ready to face whatever comes next!
The holidays are a wonderful but also stressful time of year. If you're feeling overwhelmed, use these tips to help you get through it. And remember to take care of yourself – physically, mentally, and emotionally – during this busy season (and year-round). Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday season from your RAFT Counseling Team!
