From your RAFT Counseling Team

Being single on Valentine’s Day can be tough. Whether you're recently out of a relationship, or have been single for a while, it's easy to feel left out when you see happy couples celebrating around you. B while Valentine’s Day is a day mostly celebrated by couples, that doesn’t mean that singles shouldn’t enjoy the day! Here are some tips on how to manage your Valentine’s Day when you’re single:

Manage any Anxiety or Sadness

Acknowledge your feelings. It's okay to feel anxious, sad, or left out on Valentine’s Day. But just because you're not in a relationship doesn't mean that something is wrong. Recognizing and accepting your feelings can help you work through them in a healthy way. Allow yourself to experience these emotions and take some time to reflect on where the anxiety or loneliness is coming from, but don't get stuck there. Things like writing down your emotions and taking a walk outside, can help process any anxiety or sadness that wants to linger.

Take a Break

Give yourself a break from social media. Valentine’s Day can be tough to scroll through on social media, with everyone posting pictures of flowers, chocolates, and romantic nights out. If you're feeling a bit left out, take a break from social media for the day. This will help you avoid any FOMO and give you some time to focus on things that make you happy. Disconnecting from social media can also help alleviate some of the pressures that come with constantly being "connected." When we take a break from social media, we give ourselves permission to step away from the constant barrage of images and messages. This can help us to focus on the present moment and connect with the people and things that are right in front of us. Disconnecting from social media can also help us to recharge and refocus.

Connect with Your Loved Ones

Reach out to friends and family. Spending time with loved ones is a great way to feel connected and supported, especially on a day when you might be feeling lonely. Just because you don't have a romantic partner doesn't mean you have to spend Valentine’s Day alone. It’s a day for celebrating love in all forms. So even if you don’t have a significant other, that’s no reason not to celebrate! Spend time with family and friends and show them how much you love and appreciate them. You could go out for lunch or drinks, catch a movie, or just stay in and chat. quality time with the people you love is what Valentine’s Day is all about.

Self Care it Up

Treat yourself! Just because you’re not in a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day! plan a romantic dinner for yourself and indulge in all of your favorite foods. You can even set the table with a romantic candlelit setting, put on some soothing music, and enjoy your own company. This is a great way to show yourself some love and care this Valentine’s Day. Buy yourself flowers, or a box of chocolates. Or consider doing something you've always wanted to do but never had the time for - like getting a massage, going to a concert, or taking a trip. This Valentine’s Day, focus on taking care of yourself and doing things that make YOU happy.

Valentine’s Day doesn't have to be all about being in a relationship. If you're single this year, take the opportunity to focus on self-care and doing things that make YOU happy. From reaching out to friends and family to treating yourself to something special, there are plenty of ways to make the most of Valentine’s Day - no matter your relationship status!
